In reading we appear to withdraw into a world of imagination; a few people seek refuge too readily in this and prefer it always to the world of everyday, but they are missing the full significance if they do so.

閱讀時，我們似乎撤退到一個想像的世界；有些人樂於躲進其中尋求庇護，且喜愛這裡更甚於現實世界。但這麼做，就誤解閱讀的意義了。
